Subordination vs. Coordination in Academic Discourse

Abstract

The focus of this bachelor thesis is the use of coordination and subordination in academic discourse. In the theoretical part of the thesis, the two relations are described, with a focus on specific subcategories of each relation and the conjunctions used in each relation. In the practical part of the thesis, authentic instances of each relation, which constitute the corpus of this thesis, are analysed. The analysis focuses on the distribution of the particular forms of each relation and the purpose of their use.
