Depiction of Country in J. F. Cooper

Abstract

The main purpose of this thesis is to describe how James Fenimore Cooper depicts country in his novels and what roles different types of country play. In the first part, the basic terms are defined and the chosen novel is introduced in the historical and cultural background. The second part of the thesis focuses on the analysis of the chosen novel. The main stress is put on the functions of the forest and on the description of the dominant features appearing in it.
