Abstrakt
This thesis deals with the image of the Maine region in the works of Sarah Orne Jewett and Harriet Beecher Stowe. The theoretical part focuses on the description of the region and the life and work of both authors as well as on the local color movement and regionalism. Further on, the thesis consists of the practical part, analyzing the books The Country of the Pointed Firs by S.O. Jewett and The Pearl of Orr's Island by H.B. Stowe and introducing the Maine region of the 19th century. Both works are compared at the end of each part of this analysis.
