    The Vision of Future in Terry Gilliam's "Brazil

    The influence of self-assessment as a tool for learning English on language acquisition

    This bachelor thesis deals with the self-assessment of learners learning a foreign language, specifically English, focusing on its connection to their motivation for learning. This thesis aims to determine the current influence of self-assessment on English language learning, focusing on the relationship between self-assessment and the learner's motivation. Initially, the concept of a learner, specifically the group targeted by this literature review, is introduced. Furthermore, the terms motivation, evaluation, and self-assessment are briefly explained. The thesis is divided into two parts – theoretical and practical, with the latter presented as a literature review. The theoretical part consists of basic concepts that are applied in the practical section.

Overall, the work deals with the search for true identity, whether religious or cultural and the obstacles that come with this process.

    Racism, Trauma and Empowerment in Selected Works of Afro-American fiction

    The aim of this bachelor thesis is to identify, depict, analyse and compare selected themes and issues found in Alice Walker's The Colour Purple and Toni Morrison's The Bluest Eye. The first two chapters of the paper, with the support of secondary sources, provide definitions of selected terms and an introduction to the historical-cultural background, focusing on the life of African Americans in the first half of the twentieth century. The three main chapters provide a detailed analysis of the identified themes and issues, such as racism, trauma, sexual abuse and narrative aspects, supported by primary literature and secondary sources and a final comparison of the said themes.

    The work deals with a cultural-historical context of Asian Americans, focusing on the legislation that influenced the lives of Asian immigrants, the Asian immigration waves and general relationships between Americans and Asian immigrants throughout history. Furthermore, this thesis focuses on the analysis of stereotypes and prejudice which influence the lives of the Chinese in the graphic novel American Born Chinese by Gene Luen Yang. This graphic novel is also discussed in terms of Asian American literary context where other Asian-American authors are mentioned.

The practical part aims to investigate the general aims of primary education, foreign language objectives, and expected outcomes, with a specific emphasis on pronunciation teaching at the lower secondary level. The research seeks to identify commonalities and disparities within the curricular frameworks of the two countries, without seeking to establish a hierarchical determination of the "superior" educational system. The study employs a structured comparative research approach, utilizing content analysis to examine the general objectives and contents of lower secondary education, foreign language learning, pronunciation learning, and expected outcomes in the Czech Republic and Ukraine. The thesis aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the educational systems in both countries and their approach to English pronunciation instruction, contributing valuable insights to the field of education.
