Abstract:
The main subject of this paper is the analysis of the Czech equivalents of the English toinfinitive
in Fiction. The initial part introduces the syntactic roles in which the toinfinitive
occurs. Furthermore, the differences between verbal and synthetic Czech and
nominal and analytical English are briefly provided. The analysis of Czech counterparts
of the English to-infinitive is based on two pieces of literature of the 20th century in
particular style. Subsequently, the corpus of examples is analysed, discussed and
compared with the Czech translation. Finally, the acquired findings are summarised in
the conclusion.
