Hawai'i in Gary Pak's The Watcher of Waipuna and Other Stories

Abstract

This bachelor thesis deals with the depiction of Hawai'i in the short story collection The Watcher of Waipuna and Other Stories by Gary Pak, in particular in the short stories "The Valley of the Dead Air," "The Watcher of Waipuna," and "A Toast to Rosita." The thesis presents the historical-cultural context of the chosen short stories. The thesis also introduces the theoretical concepts of regionalism, ecocriticism, postcolonialism, and environmental justice. The thesis analyses the depiction of the mentioned concepts in the chosen short stories.
