Abstrakt

The main purpose of this work is to compare the processes and approaches used in creating neologisms and proper names in the Harry Potter series (in both English and Czech version) and to evaluate their impact on readers as well as the quality of the translation. The theoretical part deals with the definition and general description of the genre of fantasy, presents word formation processes in both languages, reveals the concept of meaning, classifies neologisms and proper names and suggests various methods of translation. The practical part is dedicated to the analysis of neologisms and proper names. Both kinds of words are divided into several groups regarding their meaning. The analysis of neologisms is focused on their origin; in proper names especially the suitability of their translation is examined. The results are discussed at the end of the analysis.
