dc.description.abstract-translated |
Like many others, in the 19th century the town of Příbram used to have its own uniformed sharpshooter squad. Even though it was one of the most important associations of the town at that time, it has received only little attention of researchers-historians since then, not speaking of the ordinary town citizens. To some extent it was definitely influenced by the fact that the archival materials, which were preserved after the operation of the squad had finished in the State regional archive, were in critical condition. This contribution, based on the thesis created at the Faculty of Restoration in 2012, deals not only with the process of saving these documents, but also with the investigation into the history of the squad and the “sharpshooters’ ” objects in the depository of the Museum of Mining in Příbram. Finally, it emerged that on account of such a complex approach, initiated by the restoration of the archival materials, it was possible to reconstruct the rich activities of the squad and consequently, based on the findings, to restore its activity. In December 2013, the renewed Sharpshooter squad of Příbram resumed its activity and followed in the tradition, which had been documented for the first time in 1741 and which had been interrupted in 1918 for almost 100 years. The tradition is even more important as it refers to its formerly famous history, which can be unfortunately reminded only by a few, mainly immovable monuments, owing to the old town redevelopment in the 50s of the past century. |
