Abstrakt:
This paper focuses on the differences in narrative strategies in two short stories about Sherlock Holmes. In the first part of the paper, the descriptions of different kinds of narrators and ways of expressing characters' thoughts, i.e. for example direct and indirect speech, interior monologue, etc. are provided, as well as a brief summary of the historical background of detective fiction with focus on the changes in narrative style. The second part of this paper deals with finding examples of the described phenomena in "The Speckled Band" and "The Adventure of the Mazarin Stone" and explaining the observed differences between the two stories.
