Abstrakt

The Author offers the original view of the last ten years Comenius spent in Amsterdam. Contrary to the common image of an old man who was ill and, therefore, only reminiscing, the author presents to then long-lived Comenius as a man who was physically fit, activelly interested in political and social events and taking care of his family members, but also determinated to complete and publish his writings, which he saw as fulfilling his agreement with God to begin the repair the life of human society. The author pays the attention not only the life and works produced in the last decade of the Comenius´s life, but to the issue of the alleged portrait of Comenius by Rembrandt, the issue of the accuracy of the date of his death, and the uncovering and securing of Comenius´s grave in cooperation with Dutch and Czechoslovak experts and politicians.
