Abstrakt
This bachelor paper is focused on the sentence condensation in the English language in selected functional styles. In the first part of this work, various ways to condense English sentences are proposed with the attention to non-finite clauses, namely present participles and gerunds. The second part of this thesis deals with the analysis of occurrences of present participles and gerunds gathered form texts written in scientific prose and popular scientific functional style. The main purpose of this analysis is to test the hypothesis that gerundive and present participial clauses are more frequent in scientific texts than in popular science. The second goal is to propose the possibilities of the Czech translation of these non-finite clauses.
