Abstrakt

This bachelor paper deals with the role of the Internet in ELT. It primarily focuses on the development of skills with the use of ICT tools and in the practical part, it evaluates two websites, examines how the skills are developed with the use of sites and whether these websites could be used in a classroom environment. The theoretical part contains seven chapters. The first chapter briefly describes the history of the Internet. The next chapter examines the history of CALL. The third chapter is aimed at advantages and the fourth at disadvantages of using the Net in ELT. The Development of the skills is the name of the fifth chapter and it examines reading, writing, speaking and listening, and all the areas and receptive skills we need to focus on if we wish to improve them. The sixth chapter discusses several ICT tools which enable us to improve the productive and receptive skills of the English language. It analyses email, chat, blogs, wikis, email journals, voice and video chat, audio email, audio dialogue journals, and audio and video blogs. The last chapter deals with the screening process and criteria for evaluating websites. The other part is practical. It contains two chapters. In the first chapter, we evaluate two selected websites. The other chapter examines the possibilities of using these sites in a classroom environment.
