dc.description.abstractThis master's thesis provides a comparative analysis of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) utilisation across African countries. The mixed-methods approach is clear: ICT development indicators such as mobile and fixed broadband subscriptions, internet usage, and access to electricity are evaluated. Quantitative methods, including descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, cluster analysis, and regression modelling, were applied to assess structural patterns, while qualitative analysis explored national policy frameworks and strategic gaps. The findings reveal deep regional disparities in digital inclusion and infrastructure. The results conclusively show that the thesis presents seven evidence-based policy recommendations to support inclusive and sustainable ICT development.eng
dc.description.abstract-translatedTato diplomová práce poskytuje srovnávací analýzu využití informačních a komunikačních technologií (IKT) v afrických zemích. Přístup smíšených metod je jasný: jsou hodnoceny ukazatele rozvoje IKT, jako jsou předplatné mobilního a pevného širokopásmového připojení, používání internetu a přístup k elektřině. Kvantitativní metody, včetně deskriptivní statistiky, korelační analýzy, shlukové analýzy a regresního modelování, byly použity k posouzení strukturálních vzorců, zatímco kvalitativní analýza zkoumala národní politické rámce a strategické mezery. Zjištění odhalují hluboké regionální rozdíly v digitální inkluzi a infrastruktuře. Výsledky přesvědčivě ukazují, že práce představuje sedm politických doporučení založených na důkazech na podporu inkluzivního a udržitelného rozvoje IKT.cze
dc.description.defenceThe student defended master ‘s thesis named: Comparison of countries in Africa from the point of view of ICT utilization development and The aim of the work is to compare the development of countries in Africa or a selected region of Africa using ICT utilization indicators. Spatial analysis will be a part of data analysis. Some of the questions asked were: Given the low overall correlation in the multiple linear regression model, what are possible causes in general and what methods could be used to identify variables causing such low correlation or improve the model? Your regression analysis revealed that none of the selected variables were statistically significant predictors of internet usage. What alternative modelling approaches would you consider to capture the drivers of ICT adoption better? How can you reduce multicollinearity? How Principal Component Analysis (PCA) works? Given the diversity of Africa, how did you ensure comparability across countries with varying data availability, population sizes and political environments? The student answered the questions with difficulty.eng
