Abstrakt

The bachelor thesis deals with the concepts of key competencies and learner autonomy from the point of view of new curricular policy principles and its development in ELT. Then gives detailed description of dictionaries and also gives suggestions for the use of them in a classroom. The practical part of the thesis is based upon suggestion of a set of activities based on a dictionary use, and also on an analysis of observations of these activities in classrooms. The overall aim of the thesis is to decide what competencies are being developed by dictionary-based activities and how they are being developed.
