Abstrakt

This work is concerned with the Cold War as represented in John Wyndham's The Day of the Triffids. The theoretical part depicts the situation in Britain during the beginnings of the Cold War, and British science fiction of that period which was significantly influenced by the events of the Cold War. The work introduces the concept of cosy catastrophe which is the term first used by John Wyndham. His biography together with other of his works is also included in the paper. The practical part focuses on the analysis of motifs and themes concerning the Cold War appearing in The Day of the Triffids and a comparison with other works of that era.
