This study provides an overview of evaluation of usability performance of mobile devices by adopting evaluation model for mobile smart phones. Mobile device nowadays is being used to solve tasks ranging from simple day to day life to accomplishing complex operations. The advancement in technology allow people to use mobile devices to run different application for their business and day to day life. While introducing multiple features, mobile applications should be easy to use by the users. Thus, the usability of mobile devices should be validated against a stablished usability standard. Even though, different models have been developed to quantify the usability of products, the current standards of existing models are not sufficient to evaluate all the features of the current smart phones. For the purpose of this study, a literature review was conducted to investigate existing models that measure performance of user interface of mobile devices; identify the gaps in existing usability models of mobile devices; and identify operators that possibly measure the interaction of modern mobile devices. This paper discusses different usability evaluation models and introduce a revised and new SPLM-GOMS model that can measure the usability of mobile devices by incorporating the new features of modern smart phones as additional operators to the new model. Based on the determined model, it could be possible to evaluate the effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction level while the user interacts to mobile phones.
