The contribution is focused on mimesis both in historical and current perspective. The author will compare Philip Sidney's concept of mimesis and Anthony Nuttall's who both understand mimesis as the reflection of reality in literature. Sidney emphasises that a poet has the ability to create fictional worlds. Nuttall, on the other hand, presents mimesis as any deliberate relation to reality and he argues that it gives us the power to "lie". The opinions of both authors are quite similar despite of the fact that for Sidney the "game with text" and the purposeful transformation of reality are positive, Nuttall among other things emphasises mimesis' ability to lie. However, can the natural writing talent be degraded to simple lying and duplication of reality? Is it possible to identify the author and different cultures with the help of mimesis as interpretive concept and understand them? |
