This bachelor thesis examines oxymora that were used by William Shakespeare in his works. The theoretical part of this paper is divided into two parts; the first part explains all the semantic terms that are important for the issue of oxymora, while the second part is grammatical and deals with the two word classes that oxymora usually consist of. The practical part then examines the oxymora from the two points of view that are introduced in the theoretical part; the semantic perspective covers the meaning and self-contradiction in the oxymora, while the grammatical perspective quantitatively analyzes the oxymora based on word classes that create them. At the beginning of the practical part, there is also a brief summary of works of William Shakespeare because it is often quite important to understand the context in which the oxymora can be found. |
