The structure of headlines in English newspapers

Abstract

This diploma thesis deals with the structure of headlines in English serious newspapers. The primary aim of this work is to determine the most frequently used grammatical structures which occur in headlines and compare them to standards followed in English common core. The corpus of collected headlines consists of 160 randomly chosen authentic headlines. The thesis also includes a translation of selected headlines into Czech language.
