Abstrakt:
This paper deals with the principle of choice in American literature concerning the Second World War. The paper investigates choice from the psychological and
philosophical perspective. Based on these findings an analysis of behavior and choices of the main characters in three selected works of W. Styron (Sophie's Choice), J. Heller (Catch-22) and A. Myrer (The Big War) is made. The individual characters are then observed as they cope with major life choices in crisis situations of war and their consequences.
