This dissertation deals with study of three thermally stable explosives derived from polynitro phenylenes having two or three nitro groups per each aromatic ring. These compounds have applications in high temperature environment where common explosives are not able to withstand these high temperatures and they decompose. The applications include oil well casing perforations based on shaped charges developed for anti-tank weapons primary or spacecraft stage separation within space exploration. Experimental includes synthesis of studied compounds based on published methods and approaches to their new synthesis are made so that feasible product isolation and separation and satisfactory yield could be achieved. Prediction of their thermal stability at various temperatures was determined by means of isothermal thermogravimetric analysis and differential thermal analysis especially. Sensitivities to external impulses (impact, friction, electrostatic discharge) are described in detail from the application and disposal standpoint. Crystallographic study was performed to discuss the properties of studied polynitro phenylenes. |
