Abstrakt:
The article describes the common grounds for preparation og language courses Foreign Language I at the Faculty of Transportation focusing on designing the syllabus that enables maximum effectiveness of language instruction. To reach this aim, it is essential to consider the future professional student's needs. This is the reason for designing the syllabus in co-operation with the students in the form of a questionnaire. The questionnaire is distributed among the students long before the course starts. The results are used as a backround for the selection of teaching materials, especially authentic ones.
