The paper results from the brief characteristics of the enlargement of European Union. In relation to the fact that for the new planning period 2007-2013 is the basic objective based on the competitiveness of the European Union, the paper deals with the question how to use clusters and cluster initiatives as an instrument for the increase of the competitiveness as well.
