Abstrakt

This paper discusses postmodernism and its features in contemporary fairy tales, particularly in the context of two selected works of Jon Scieszka - The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs and The Other Frog Prince. Its main aim is to present Jon Scieszka as a postmodern writer and to target postmodern techniques and features that Scieszka implements in his works. In the initial, theoretical part of the paper, children's literature - folk tales, fairy tales, picture books - and postmodernism and its techniques are discussed in order to present and define the terms used in the analytical part. The analytical part consists of two chapters focused on Scieszka's postmodern fairy tales which are put into contrast with their traditional predecessors, The Story of the Three Little Pigs by Joseph Jacobs and The Frog Prince by Edgar Taylor.
