Reflection of Victorian Values in Cranford by Elizabeth Gaskell

Abstract

The principal aim of this bachelor thesis is to analyze the Victorian values, which are reflected in Cranford by Elizabeth Gaskell. At first, the thesis describes the historical background of the Victorian era together with the cultural background dealing with the elaborate social system and individual social classes. Moreover, Cranford is put into the literary context, which also provides the features of Victorian novel. Finally, the analysis is focused on the Victorian values found in Cranford and these are directly contrasted with theoretical findings.
