A sustainability overview of the best practices in the airport sector

Abstract

This paper refers to the way the sustainable development issues are being addressed by some of those airports that have been considered the best in the world from the perspective of costumers. Firstly, an introduction is given about the rapid growth in this sector in the past few years. Secondly, a special attention is given to the increasing related impacts in the socioeconomic and environmental dimensions. Subsequently, a brief introduction about the criteria commonly used for assessing the quality of airport services around the world is provided. Finally, additional criteria regarding the expectations of several stakeholders on sustainability issues is provided and used for investigating the extent to which the acclaimed "best airports" address these issues.
