dc.description.abstract-translatedThis is built on three main objectives as follows; examined a symbiotic relationship between occupational health hazards and safety culture, to demystify operational risk and improve safety culture and finally, to examine the modelling effect of health hazards on risk management and safety culture at Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) in Ghana. The study employed both descriptive and explanatory research designs. Convenient sampling technique and structured questionnaires were deployed to elicit information from the study participants. The data were analysed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) and Smart Partial Least Square (PLS). The study discovered that the newly proposed model accurately predicted 92% and 77% respectively for health hazards and risk management on safety culture practices in the oil and gas sector in Ghana. From the model the strongest determinant of safety culture in the oil and gas is health hazard (â=0.66), followed by risk management (â=0.45). Other significant determinants were identified as follows: biological hazards (â=0.26), chemical hazards (â=0.22), mechanical hazards, RM= Risk Management (â=0.27) and Psychological hazards (â=0.27). The study also found insignificant effects of psychological hazards on health hazards; also, health hazards had no significant impact on risk management. The study concludes that the newly integrated be adopted to effectively manage safety culture at TOR. The study recommends that this integrated model is required to comprehensively explain the safety culture at TOR since implementation of occupational health and safety management system (OHS-MS) has been proven inadequate.eng
