Abstrakt

The main aim of this bachelor thesis is to provide an analysis of Flannery O‟Connor‟s selected short stories in terms of her negative depiction of city life and the depiction of country life as a place of religious awakening . T he characters living in particular areas will also be dealt with . The s ocio - historical context of the American South and the changes which the Southern society was undergoing in the twentieth century are introduced in the first part of the paper. The second part provides the analyses of the selected short stories , focusing on the depiction of the rural and urban environments and their inhabitants . The satirical features in the behaviour of the characters living in cities are analysed , and the problems of modern American society are pointed out.
