Exploration of Victorian Women in Bram Stoker´s Dracula

Abstract

This paper aims to showcase the mindset of Victorians on women through the analysis of Dracula, written by Bram Stoker. The theoretical part focuses on the historical and social context of the Victorian era in which the novel was written. As well as disclosing the social context of women living in the period with certain ideals in society. And how women's sexuality affected literary and social interpretation of women. The analytical part first explores how women's gender roles were reflected and how they affected the female characters in Dracula. Secondly, the analytical part delves into how the female characters' sexuality was interpreted within the context of the Victorian mindset. The main aim is to identify which social ideals affected the depiction of women in the novel and how women's sexuality was viewed at the time.
