The main aim of this paper is to describe social imaginations of „the Indian“ in a film. The construction of these images is offered in a historical context from the beginnings of the film in the 19th century to contemporary movies, often created by Norh American Indigenous filmmakers. The paper also deals with the theme of media decolonization of representation of the indigenous peoples of North America and discuss the potential limits of an alternative production to the one of Hollywood, such as audiences and their acceptance of specific indigenous aesthetics and narrativity of contemporary indigenous filmmakers. |
