dc.description.abstract-translated Today, it is almost clear that Eliade in his youth became active in the Romanian nationalist politics and adhered to the principles of the Iron Guard, despite his later attempts to deny it. At the end of the 1970s, Eliade was attacked with virulence by Italian leftist intellectuals because of his past and of his anti-Semitism, so that his position of a scientist was scandalized. Italian intellectuals and other Eliade’s detractors have had the merit of pointing out the importance of the study of the intellectual background of personalities in the academic world. On the other side, they did not show the dose of tolerance necessary in such a delicate question. eng
