dc.description.abstract The article claims that the idea of "americanness" is a plausible non-aeshtetic criterion of American literary canon formation. The author illustrates the traditional concepts of the American experience and classical canon based on them and present the contemporary opening up of the canon as a natural consequence of the changing perception of americanness that has gradually included the non-white and female prespectives. eng
