The thesis deals with English language teaching based on respecting learners' learning styles. It discusses especially modification of instruction in relation to the learning styles proceeding from the preferred representation system (visual, auditory and kinesthetic style). Respecting learners' learning styles is combined with practising learning strategies. In the practical part, action research conducted in a selected class of a lower secondary school is presented. Its aim was, on the basis of the diagnosis of learners' learning styles, to conduct adequate English language teaching and to evaluate this intervention from the perspective of the teacher as well as the learners.
