Abstrakt:
The main aim of this thesis is to identify teacher roles in the context of the Dalton Plan in English language teaching on the basis of a comparative study, and their impact on learner-centeredness. This paper is also concerned with the development of learner's autonomy under the influence of the principles of the Dalton Plan. This thesis is presenting the Dalton Plan as one of the alternative possibilities of teaching approaches in the school environment.
In the theoretical part, the background for the practical part of this thesis is presented. The main philosophy and principles of the Dalton Plan and learners' autonomy is described and also the learning strategies, organizational forms and roles of the teacher are discussed, together with the particularity of learner-centeredness and teacher-centeredness. The practical part contains description and results of the observations in the Czech school environment. The comparative study was done in order to compare roles of the English teacher in the context of traditional non-Dalton lessons and Dalton lessons.
