dc.description.abstract |

The proposed work is aimed on principal motives of fast and fasting as contained in Tanach and consequential Early rabbinic literature. This theme is explored in biblical texts. As key source materials was used original Hebrew script as well as its Czech translation, so called Czech ecumenical translation. The opening is dedicated to defining fast and fasting as a religious phenomenon, crosscutting various religious traditions. The main part of this work concentrates on explaining fast and fasting with the help of a Hebrew terms analysis and an interpretation of text excepts in which fast and fasting is to be found. This language analysis shall significantly contribute to a correct understanding of the examined topic within the framework of a biblical tradition. The work concludes with a reference to divergent forms of fasting practice as it appears for example in Abraham tradition. |
