The main aim of this thesis is to pinpoint that the Dalton Plan ideas and materials offer a great opportunity for introducing the within School Educational Programme of such schools in the Czech Republic which appreciate its ideas but might not be courageous enough to implement them into their language teaching. The theoretical part characterises the Dalton plan main principles and devotes space to own material development in English Language Teaching (ELT). It also suggests how teachers can use various effective teaching strategies for developing mainly reading skills, eventually writing skills and teaching vocabulary. The outcome of the theoretical part proposes a list of criteria for evaluation of the self-developed material.
